Am 15. Mai 1959 eröffnete eine der ersten Diskotheken Deutschlands unter dem Namen „Ocambo Club“ in Osnabrück. Danach schossen sie überall wie Pilze aus dem Boden. In den 1970er-Jahren gab es allein im Nordwesten Niedersachsens schon mehr als 140 Diskotheken. Fast von Anfang an dabei war „Metas Musikschuppen“ in Norddeich. Die Besitzerin wurde zur Kultfigur - den Laden führt ihr Sohn Sven noch heute. Und auch der „Hyde Park“ in Osnabrück hat eine lange, wechselvolle Geschichte.

Doch viele Diskotheken gibt es nicht mehr - die erste ist jetzt im Museum. Die Landdiskothek „Zum Sonnenstein“ aus Harpstedt wurde 2018 demontiert und als Kulturgut im Museumsdorf Cloppenburg originalgetreu wieder aufgebaut. Die Dokumentation zeigt die Entstehung und den Wandel der Diskotheken vom einfachen Auftrittsort für Tanzkapellen bis hin zum Techno-Tempel mit Lasershow.

When the disco came to northern Germany

On May 15th 1959, one of the first discotheques in Germany opened with the name “Ocambo Club” in Osnabrück. They subsequently shot out of the ground everywhere like mushrooms. In the 1970s, there were already more than 140 discotheques in the northwest of Lower Saxony alone. Among these was “Metas Musikschuppen” in Norddeich almost from the very beginning. The female owner became a cult figure - her son Sven runs the disco even today. And the “Hyde Park” in Osnabrück also has a long and varied history.

But many discotheques no longer exist - the first of them is now in a museum. The country discotheque “Zum Sonnenstein” in Harpstedt was dismantled in 2018 and reassembled in its original state as a cultural asset in the museum village of Cloppenburg. The documentary portrays the emergence and transition of discotheques from simple entertainment venues of dance bands up to techno temples with laser shows.
