Der Regisseur Dieu Hao Do erforscht die Zersplitterung seiner Familie. Der amerikanische Krieg in Vietnam hat sie seit Mitte der 1970er-Jahre auf drei Kontinente verstreut. Fast 50 Jahre nach ihrer Flucht ist der Kontakt zwischen den sieben Familienmitgliedern so gut wie abgebrochen. Wie haben sich Traumata durch Verfolgung und Gewalt in die Körper und Seelen der Überlebenden und die ihrer Kinder eingeschrieben? Was hat das Leben im Exil über die Jahre mit ihnen gemacht? Ist der Kommunismus daran schuld, dass sie nicht mehr miteinander sprechen?

Nach dem Fall von Saigon am 30. April 1975 waren mehr als 1,5 Millionen Menschen vor dem kommunistischen Regime geflohen, viele davon − auch die Familie des Regisseurs − gehörten zur chinesischen Minderheit dort.

Director Dieu Hao Do explores the fragmentation of his family. The American war in Vietnam has scattered them across three continents since the mid-1970s. Almost 50 years after their flight, contact between the seven family members has almost come to an end. How have traumas from persecution and violence inscribed themselves in the bodies and souls of the survivors and those of their children? What has life in exile done to them over the years? Is communism to blame for the fact that they no longer speak to each other?

After the fall of Saigon on 30th April 1975, more than 1.5 million people fled from the communist regime, many of them − including the director's family − belonging to Saigon’s Chinese minority.
