Südlich von Hannover erstreckt sich zwischen Leinetal und Deister eine besonders abwechslungsreiche Landschaft. Die Leine fließt zu Füßen des Märchenschlosses Marienburg durch ein Mosaik aus Feldern, Wiesen, naturnahen Teichen und ausgedehnten Wäldern. Hier haben zahlreiche Tiere und Pflanzen einen Rückzugsraum gefunden.

Die Tierfilmer Svenja und Ralph Schieke waren zwei Jahre lang mit der Kamera in der Region unterwegs. Sie beobachteten Wildschweine, Feuersalamander, Turmfalken und Erdhummeln. Bei der Balz der Höckerschwäne waren sie ebenso dabei wie beim Kampf der Wisente und den Familienausflügen der Biber mitten in Hannover. Die ungewöhnlichen Blickwinkel und einzigartigen Verhaltensaufnahmen schaffen ein Porträt des Landstriches, wie es so noch nicht gezeigt wurde.

Wild animals along the River Leine - the Hanoverian countryside

An especially varied stretch of land exist to the south of Hanover between the valley of the river Leine and the Deister hills. The river Leine flows past the foot of the fairytale castle Marienburg through a mosaic of fields, meadows, natural ponds and extensive woodlands. This is where numerous animals and plants have found a retreat.
The wildlife filmmakers Svenja and Ralph Schieke were underway in the region with their cameras for two years. They observed boars, fire salamanders, kestrels and buff-tailed bumblebees. They witnessed the mating season of mute swans as well as bouts of the bison and excursions of beaver families in the middle of Hanover. The unusual perspectives and unique shots of animal behaviour create a portrait of this stretch of countryside as never shown before.
