Die Tote ist die gebürtige Bremerin Birgit Dressel, damals die Hoffnung der deutschen Leichtathletik im Siebenkampf. Sie gilt als erste Dopingtote Deutschlands. Unzählige Indizien zeigen, wer in den Fall verwickelt ist. Doch für Birgit Dressels Tod muss sich bis heute niemand verantworten.
Die Doku-Serie rekonstruiert den Fall und geht neuen Spuren nach. Anhand von Interviews, Archivmaterial und fiktionalen Szenen skizziert sie das Bild eines gnadenlosen Leistungssportsystems.
Death for Olympic Sport - the Birgit Dressel Story
April 1987. A world-class athlete died in Mainz University Hospital from multiple organ failure. She was pumped full of dozens of substances from doping, painkillers and other drugs for years. She was just 26 years old. In life, Bremen native Birgit Dressel was a star of West Germany’s athletics team, specialising in the heptathlon. She was also Germany’s first doping casualty. Countless clues point the finger at who was involved in her demise. But to this day, nobody has officially been held responsible for the death of Birgit Dressler.
This documentary series reconstructs the case and follows new leads. Using interviews, archive material and reconstructions, it sketches a picture of a merciless competitive sports system.
