In der Not erfindet sich die Filmszene neu: Hilfsnetzwerke werden organisiert, Proben per Videocall durchgeführt, Filmfestivals streamen live. FILMMAKERS ON HOLD schlägt den Bogen vom Ausbruch der Pandemie bis hin zur schrittweisen Rückkehr zum Alltag, auch in der Filmproduktion. Die Show geht weiter. Doch kann nach dem Trauma der Pandemie wirklich alles wieder so werden wie früher?

New York City is one of the most filmed cities in the world. It is also an important production location and international hub for filmmakers. In April 2020, the metropolis of the independent film scene became a backdrop for a new drama: the COVID-19 pandemic. FILMMAKERS ON HOLD documents the living and working reality of New York filmmakers between 2020 and 2022 and highlights the consequences of lockdown − on both a professional and a personal level.

The film industry reinvented itself in times of need: support networks were set up, rehearsal rooms were swapped for video calls, and film festivals were streamed live. FILMMAKERS ON HOLD spans the period from the outbreak of the pandemic to the gradual return to everyday life, including in the world of film production. The show goes on. But can things really go back to how they were before the trauma of the pandemic?
