Die Dokumentation beleuchtet die 90-jährige Geschichte des hannoverschen Varietés. Bekannt wurde der Georgspalast GOP bereits in den 1920er Jahren als Restaurant für über 1000 Gäste und ab 1937 als Spielstätte großer Swing- und Jazz-Orchester. Josephine Baker, Zarah Leander, Hans Moser, Heinz Erhardt, Rudi Carrell, Harald Juhnke und Eartha Kitt sind hier aufgetreten. Seine Blütezeit als Varieté erlebte das GOP von 1948 bis 1962. Erst 30 Jahre später, 1992, gelingt - nach einigen gescheiterten Versuchen, das Theater anders zu nutzen - der Neuanfang als Varietétheater. Eine Reihe von Zeitzeugen, Künstler von damals und heute, sorgen für ein umfassendes, zum Teil sehr komisches Porträt des Hauses.

The documentation portrays the 90 year-old history of the Hanoverian music hall. The ”Georgspalast GOP” became well-known in the 20’s as a restaurant for over 1000 guests, and after 1937, as a music hall for large swing and jazz orchestras. Josephine Baker, Zarah Leander, Hans Moser, Heinz Erhardt, Rudi Carrell, Harald Juhnke and Eartha Kitt made their appearances here. The ”GOP” experienced its heyday as a music hall between 1948 and 1962. Thirty years later, after several failed attempts, it became possible in 1992 to make use of the theatre in a different way - a new beginning as a variety theatre. A host of witnesses of the time as well as artists from then and now portray a comprehensive and partly very humorous picture of the building and its history.
